Final Fantasy 7 Revelation gets April 2027 release date
The wait is almost over for Final Fantasy fans eager to see how the remake trilogy concludes. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed during Sony’s State of Play that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027.
A simultaneous worldwide launch
What makes this release particularly noteworthy is that Revelation will be the first game in the Final Fantasy 7 remake series to launch on all platforms at the same time. That means PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC players will all get to experience the finale together on day one.
This is a significant shift from the previous entries. Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched as a PlayStation exclusive in 2020 before eventually making its way to PC. Rebirth followed a similar pattern, leaving players on other platforms waiting months or even years to jump in. With Revelation, Square Enix is finally treating all platforms equally from the start.
Spring 2027 gets a concrete date
We’ve known for a while that Revelation was targeting a spring 2027 window, but having a locked-in date gives fans something concrete to mark on their calendars. April 8 falls right in the sweet spot of that season, and it gives the development team a clear finish line to work toward.
For those keeping track of the trilogy’s journey, this means the gap between Rebirth and Revelation will be roughly three years, assuming Rebirth launched in early 2024. That’s a reasonable development cycle for a game of this scale, especially considering the lessons learned from the first two entries.
What this means for PC players
PC gamers in particular have reason to celebrate. No more waiting for a port announcement, no more wondering if it’ll be optimized properly, no more watching console players enjoy the game while you sit on the sidelines. A day one PC release suggests Square Enix has been developing with all platforms in mind from the beginning, which hopefully means a solid technical experience across the board.
The inclusion of Nintendo Switch 2 is also interesting. While we don’t have full specs on Nintendo’s next console yet, Square Enix’s confidence in launching there simultaneously suggests the hardware will be capable enough to handle this demanding RPG.
The Resonance surprise
While Revelation got its release date, the State of Play presentation also brought news about Final Fantasy Resonance, which apparently received a surprise demo. This suggests Square Enix is keeping the Final Fantasy momentum going strong into 2027 and beyond.
Looking ahead
With eight months still to go before launch, there’s plenty of time for Square Enix to show off more gameplay, reveal special editions, and build hype for what should be an epic conclusion to this retelling of one of gaming’s most beloved stories. Whether you’re a longtime fan who played the original on PS1 or someone discovering this world through the remake trilogy, April 2027 can’t come soon enough.
